Antique 19th Century hand woven Kashmir Paisley shawl is an absolute beauty. Beautiful workmanship. This is a large Kashmir embroidered paisley coverlet, or shawl with a dark wool center boteh border all around. The shawl is a classic handmade one of separately woven and joined to the field, center medallion in dark wool.Colors are in red, green, yellow and black. Kashmir handmade shawls’ are textiles handcrafted by artisans with fine wool and sometimes silk threads and they are usually pieced together as patch work.
Condition is consistent with age; There are about a dozen or so places where there are but disconnects where the pieces meet and these small areas eventually will need to be re sewn together. This is only visible when you hold it to the light. There are some tiny holes along the joining lines; In the dark center there are 2 small holes. Otherwise excellent.
Shawl is signed in the center and on the back looks to be a museum acquisition tag. I do not know which museum to which this piece was a deaquisition.
Measurements are 74-1/2" X 74-1/2"
