Antique Victorian circa 1869 polonaise dress Fashioned of an early metallic pewter colored silk This dress has bright blue silk making up a design on the sleeves, and piped seams of this blue Also has this silk binding as a decorative trim throughout. The bodice has an early hook and eye closure with 23 decorative buttons in place on the outside of the polonaise jacket. Elaborate ruffled trim, scallops and bows trim the lower edge of this incredible garment. This dress has much that is hand sewn, but some of the long seams are machine sewn. The jacket is lined in a white polished cotton and has a built in waist cincher with a front hook and eye closure. The skirt is fashioned of polished cotton with the lower portion being the pewter silk with elaborate blue silk trimming. It is excellent condition with only some fray at the bottom edge. Back closure is hook and eye closure. NOT SHOWN IN THE PICTURES (entirely my fault, as I only discovered it after the shoot) is a wonderful belt with back ties to tie into a giant bow on the bustle back. This is included in your buy. The design of this dress is striking. Condition: Very good to age; silk is generally strong throughout. There are some breaks to the silk at the shoulders and a few other places in this early pewter colored silk. An amazing metallic textile! All 23 buttons are present; There are a few places where the decorative straps on the sleeves have detached and need to be tacked back on; or where the blue binding is off the straps and need to be re sewn. All in all it is a completely hand sewn masterpiece
